JOBS Work Area

Sector Development and Business Linkage

The cornerstone of JOBS' success, the sector development and linkage program, has enjoyed global recognition and is today being utilized as the foundation in several innovative pilot initiatives. By focusing on specific target sectors and assessing all stakeholders and opportunities JOBS has successfully tied social development objectives with the growth and stabilization of a vibrant private sector. The keys to this success has been the differentiation of all steps of the business process in the selected sector, the matching of product/raw material/manpower demand with available supplies, provision or facilitation of necessary training, and the marketing of finished goods both locally and globally. Included in this process is assistance in accessing available credit and guidance in developing the business unit in order to support successful marketing efforts.

Income Generation for Marginalized Populations

JOBS works with closely with private sector partners in order to identify wage-based employment opportunities for marginalized populations including rehabilitated drug users, former sex workers, and adolescent girls.  JOBS also works closely with char (island) dwellers to improve the quality and quantity of their products, add value through agro-processing, and link them to higher value regional and national markets to maximize their income.

Capacity Development Training

Working closely with Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and private sector enterprises, JOBS partners offer both technical training and capacity development training in the guise of various business management modules. Training provides assistance to address specific needs of the participants and works to explore and expand the human capabilities within the targeted sectors.

Enabling Environment

Globally there exist many policy environments that erect numerous hurdles for enterprises to overcome in order to succeed. JOBS has vast experience in providing assistance in such situations. In Bangladesh the proposed Secured Transaction Act was drafted and put forward for government review, while the removal of interest rate caps on some loans and the raising of the VAT rate floor helped to create easier access for small business. JOBS also has also conducted a number of studies, including an analysis on the access to finance by SMMEs in Bangladesh.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Through our business linkage program, we are able to assist companies meet their Corporate Social Responsibility goals through linking them with ongoing development projects.  This allows both companies and development organizations to maximize their impact on society.

Information and Communication Technology

In keeping with its emphasis on economic development, JOBS has experience in various fields of ICT, including e-governance, ecommerce, e-policy and e-human resources development. Successes to date include the drafting, vetting and eventual passage of the IT Act for Bangladesh as well as the establishment of the Cisco Networking Academy Program and the Sun Academic Initiative in the country.  JOBS also works closely with its affiliate JOBS-ICT Private Limited (JIPL) in its efforts to improve the quality of ICT graduates in Bangladesh through improving their soft skills.
